HISTORY
|
|
| Part
of the inspiration for the WereBears came from the idea of having
cute teddies with attitude and a dualistic potential, equipping
them with the ability to defend themselves or their owners. This
made the WereBears the ideal companion for both girls and boys,
halting the stigma of “only wimpy boys have teddy toys”. |
| |
| After the launch of the WereBear
comic, the bears became an overnight success, outselling many
established comic publication rivals and developing a huge
fan base. It was not long before major licensee deals were
on the table in the UK and USA. |
| |
| George decided to grant the rights
for plush toys to Hornby UK, featured on our sister site here.
Again the WereBear toys outsold many of its shelf rivals including
the Hollywood-backed Gremlins and other established properties. |
| |
| All
of the WereBear toys came with a cassette tape with an audio
adventure on it, featuring the voice of children’s favourite
narrator Oliver Postgate. |
